« on: December 16, 2007, 04:48:44 PM »
As janny77 has posted the phone number for Rowland Johnson has been disconnected . I suggest calling Gary Corippo at the Estrella Museum to see if he knows why it was donated.
Gary's cell is 805 712 1222.

Hangar Flying / Tunes
« on: December 16, 2007, 04:31:39 PM »
I have an iPod playing thru the audio input on the intercom.
I like Mozart and Beethoven.
There is nothing to compare playing Beethoven's 5th flying over the Sierras and going thru the passes playing Wagner's ride of the valkyries.

While you have the pivot bolt out why not fit the taper bearing kit from Jack Wilhelmson

I fitted this about 3 years ago and it has been well worth it, no more bent bolts

The Estrella Warbird Museum in Paso Robles has a VariEZE they want to move. I have seen it and it is a basic aircraft and would need a full refurbishment. The engine has been removed. If you are interested call Gary Corippo @ 805 238 2090.They are looking to give it away for a contribution to the Museum. The N# is 84EZ.

Hangar Flying / Long EZ vs RV6
« on: September 19, 2007, 05:38:52 PM »
Dave
Good to see you came to your senses, you had me worried that all that rain in Oregon had effected your reason.
The guy I bought my Long from had an RV6 which he since sold.

Hangar Flying / Relays
« on: September 18, 2007, 02:38:28 PM »
I have just changed out both the starter and master relays, they became intermittant. What is interesting they failed within 20 hours of each other.
The hours on the airframe are 700 and the life is 19 years. They are both mounted up in the nose next to the battery, visually they looked OK no corrosion.

Hangar Flying / Whelen Lenses
« on: September 18, 2007, 01:27:42 PM »
That little clear light lens is $31.30 from Spruce.
When I found out the price I collected all the pieces and stuck them together with ceramic cement! Been flying OK for about 100 hrs.

Hangar Flying / VG's
« on: August 22, 2007, 02:30:02 PM »
I am confused. I thought the theory behind a canard aircraft is the canard stalls before the main wing and drops the nose so the main wing won't stall. If you alter the stalling speed of the canard by VG's aren't you in danger of stalling the main wing? It's claimed that VG's give a lower landing speed, but aren't you now closer to stalling the main wing? Not a good idea if you are coming into land.

Hangar Flying / Wobley Brakes
« on: August 16, 2007, 07:02:04 PM »
Did you bed the new pads in before flying?
The Repco method is 2 fast stops from 40 mph with a cool down period between runs.To check do an engine run up and check for forward creep.
If the aircraft moves do another taxi with a hard stop and check again.

Hangar Flying / EGT/CHT Probes
« on: November 05, 2006, 01:13:23 PM »
I am thinking of replacing my EGT/CHT system with the EI monitor and was also considering what probes to use.
The system I have now is Westach which uses a multicylinder switch which is very unreliable. The switch is intermittant and even switch cleaner has not fixed the variable resistence I am getting when I switch between cylinders. Bad readings are worse than no readings.
The Westach probes appear to work OK does anyone know if they are compatable with EI instruments?
