Hangar Flying / EZ plans for all...
« on: May 05, 2005, 01:21:25 AM »
We should all embrace Mr. Rutan's designs, not fight about them, perhaps there are some lawyers that can add some info to this thread, ie copyright infringement....

I dont thing anyone (including Mr. R wants to see the long/varie/ Whatever-canard) die. I think people are just sick of the bs>> ie planes crashing due to builder error not detected by the inspector,, and the lawsuits that follow..

My $0.02

PS if your from Canada,,  Spit on a Liberal! (or supporter for that matter)

Hangar Flying / Prop Bolts
« on: April 17, 2005, 11:46:31 AM »
Aircraft Spruce has an excellent bolt selector,, you simple put in the size, length, and whether or not it needs to be drilled in the head or shank,, and then presto, your bolts are there!!

Hangar Flying / 0-235 AD
« on: April 10, 2005, 02:51:31 PM »
Well I dont know wich oil pump you have,, but I was bitten by the oil pump ad a couple of years ago in my aztec,, The pumps that we took out where fine! (2 alum gears) nothing worn or any sign of trouble, and then to add insult to injury, I had to do another ad, (replacing some bolts that where supplied by lycoming with the new pumps!) I think there are about 4 different pump setups that you can have and some are better than others. I would find out wich one you have and make a decision as to change it or not. I know its a very imortant part of the engine, but have you ever heard of one failing?

Its funny how the feds work,, we recently had a valve drop in our club 150, but do have you ever seen an ad to check the valve train for wear?
I've heard of alot more engines quiting from valve problems than oil pumps failing!

Hangar Flying / Repaint advice
« on: April 06, 2005, 01:09:43 PM »
Well I've had mt Varieze for a couple of years now,, and I love the plane.

But its time to repaint it, the only problem is the paint that is currently on the plane has not adhered to the primer very well. For example you can pull off the paint with duct tape.

What I was going to do was to remove all the old paint with tape (I know, I know) but I was advised my a local eaa guy not to..

anyone else have any suggestions??

The aircraft is finished superbly and I want to try to avoid removing any filler.

Thanks

I just looked on the site,, and the E-MAG is only for the lycoming engines, so I guess thats not an option for me !

Hangar Flying / LSE vs Jeff Rose ignition

I just got a reply from electroair and they are carrying his ignition systems,, the price quoted for my O-200 was $1062, and the LSE system will ring in at about $1200.

I've heard good things about both but I still havent deceided which one.
I think I'm leaning towards the LSE system but well have to see

Hangar Flying / Mounting a canard from another aircraft
« on: March 22, 2005, 02:16:17 AM »
There is a link somewhere to someones webpage that has the Canard incidence Template on it,,

Sorry I cant be more help! I do have the template, and if you want I can Mail you a copy..

I think you should just build a new canard, its a fair bit of work, but I think youll rest eze knowing that its done right. + the added bonus is you can build a Roncz Canard and not worry about the rain fade!

Good luck.

Hangar Flying / Long-ez rain canard
« on: March 16, 2005, 06:04:27 PM »
I think the biggest thing to mention here is that all canards are not equal.

In the  CPs it is noted that some GU canards actually experience a pitch up change in rain..

My VE does nose over when wet but it is very controllable, and it doesnt really seem to matter how hard (or light) the rain is. If there is water, move the trim back an inch, that simple.

I would ask the owner of the plane you want to buy to take you for a ride in some rain, just to see first hand how it handles.. And then make your decision.

Have fun

Hangar Flying / O-200 engine/C-85 pistons
« on: February 24, 2005, 02:03:14 AM »
Ok whats the deal with putting C-85 pistons in the O-200 to increase the compression.. I got a C-85 piston from a friend to compare with my pistons(O-200) and the C-85 has a bigger bore!! ,, to me it looks like about a 16th of an inch..

When doing the C-85 piston mod, do you have to use the C-85 cylinders as well??

Any imput would be great as I'm on a quest for more power!!

Thanks

Hangar Flying / Sealing the nose (wintertime subject)
« on: January 04, 2005, 11:09:54 AM »
One thing that I have done to keep my VE warm is to completly seal the cockpit/canopy ,, and then I force air in the back of the aircraft,, this sort of pressurizes the cockpit and air actually "leaks out" of the elevator tubes..

I was flying yesterday at -26C and no problems!!
