OK, got the plane in the garage..whats this bit for??

Now installed at home, I'm going through the plans and the plane. Couple of odd things. The rudder pedals have brake cylinders attached to them in the nose, but the plans call for them on the firewall. Is this a mod of some sort?
Also, the canard seems longer than plans. How can I tell if its an upgraded style?
I got an I0-320 and not sure if I need a mod for the prop. And what kind of prop to put on? Cruise type works for me, but not sure what to shop for.

Nose mounted brake cylinders is a popular mod.  I am sure that there are some drawings out there somewhere.

What is the actual span of your canard?

I have an IO-320 on my Long.  It has 10:1 pistons and LSE electronic ignition.  I have a Catto 3-blade prop.

One thing that I always do with a partially completed project or a finished airplane is to check it for conformity.  I go through the airplane, nose to tail, comparing it to the plans, measuring and weighing as I go along.

Hi

I think most of us have the brake cylinders in the nose  (1) there is just
not enough space in the back for everything   (2) helps with the Cg
a very little bit.   Yes, Burt is a genius but that does NOT mean that we
have to follow absolutely every thing in the plans in minutest detail.

IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THE PLANS BE SURE TO ASK AN EXPERT.

How do you find an expert?  
(1)  Join the CSA and see who lives close to you (from the directory).
      Some will be experts, some may not have a clue.   Be careful!

(2)  contact me off line and I will tell you who I check with.     At least
      I can recognize an expert

Hey Britguy check out deb's page. She has a booklet that contains info on a form of the forward mounted master cylinder mod. Hope that helps.
