Hangar Flying / VariEze sight gauges
« on: August 27, 2005, 07:15:28 AM »
Our VariEze had the original per-plans sight gauges, too. After 21 years they weren't leaking, but they were no longer transparent. So we installed Vance Atkinson's fuel sight gauges. Depending on where the crack is on yours, these may fix the problem. Once installed, the space behind Vance's gauges is flooded, yet contained. I followed Vance's instructions, and also floxed the periphery of the gauges in FOUR separate applications. The plastic is Lexan, IIRC, and floxed 4 times this is an extremely tough and permanent area of our plane. I would recommend this as the repair that your plane needs. Here's an image of one of the gauges in our plane:

And here's Vance's email address. His sightgauge kit is still only about $40, including the floating indicator balls and instructions.

Hangar Flying / Oshkosh 2005
« on: August 03, 2005, 08:56:27 AM »
Back from AirVenture/Oshkosh 2005. My wife Gail and I had a great week there. Our Rutan VariEze performed flawlessly, as usual. There were a large number of Rutan canards this year, drawn by Burt Rutan’s White Knight, SpaceShipOne, and Global Flyer. Here are a few of the 115 photos we took during the trip. We camped in the Homebuilt Camping area, and we met and talked with so many people who fly or are building either a VariEze, a LongEZ, or a Cozy Mk IV like we are building. Burt Rutan, Sir Richard Branson, and Paul Allen announced the creation of a new joint venture company, The SpaceShip Company, which will build 5 SpaceShipTwo’s (7 seats) very soon and begin offering suborbital flights to the general public in 2008.

I’ll upload and post links to lots of other photos if anyone is interested in the rest. Cozy builder Rick Maddy took more than 500 photos, so perhaps cruise over to maddyhome and check those out.
