I am getting ready to install the Gas Caps in my Longez project. Has someone had a recent experience and have a recommendation for a good solution?

Wait until you are completely finished with the sand and fill, and are ready for paint on the strakes. I installed mine after primer, and only had to do minor touchup of the primer around the caps.
I'm not sure of your caps but heres how I did it:
Using a hole saw that has a center pilot drill bit, Drill the pilot and large hole in the outer skin ONLY. DO NOT Penetrate the inner skin with the pilot.
NOTE The size of the holes may be different for the inner and outer skins. On my caps (ACS Thermos bottle) The outer hole is about 1/2 inch larger. This works out great.
Carefully use a dremel and clean away the foam all the way down to the inner skin. You should have a good glass contact all the way around.
Clean the foam under the outer skin (1/4 inch) to allow for flox to adhere to the underside of the outer skin.
Complete the clearing of the foam so that you'll have a good flox bonding to both the inner and outer skins.
Use a vacuum and clean the area.
Now use the original hole saw as a guide and drill the pilot hole throufgh the inner skin (run the vacuum while doing this to minimuxe drilling debris from going in the hole)
Switch the hole saw to the inner size and cut through the inner skin. Again, use the vacuum to minimize debris. I use a small (1/4 inch) tube x 24 inches long taped to the vacuum hose and clean the inside of the tank.
DO NOT USE THE VACUUM HOSE - Its to large and cause the debris to be scattered into the corners and recesses
The holes should already be prepped and clean and ready for floxing the caps in place. Test fit the cap in the hole.
Scratch the inner surfaces of the cap to improve the flox bonding. Now, glob flox all the way around the hole between the inner and outer skins. Now press the cap into the hole so it is even with the outter skin, you'll probably have flox oozing up between the cap antd the hole.
