I think it was somewhere around 7K for both the 420 and transponder.

Hangar Flying / Mode S
« on: September 28, 2006, 08:32:15 PM »
I have a Garmin 420 that uses the info from a garmin mode s transponder.  It displays the traffic info on the color moving map and switches to a traffic only display when traffic is closer than 2 miles.  Sixteen years ago when I first flew my longez I installed the best nav I could find at the time (Northstar) now I have upgraded to something much better and I think it is worth the money and peace of mind to have the best nav and com (especially when it is combined with mode S info) that you can get.

Hangar Flying / B&C Started
« on: July 23, 2006, 03:10:19 PM »
I have a B&C Starter and am using a starter solenoid.  Adding a starter after four years of hand starting was the first, best thing that I added to my airplane.

Stay with the stick on the right side.  You wil have to use your left hand for the throttle, radios, etc.

Hangar Flying / transition from hose to fitting

nothing tricky just replace the fitting going into the master cylinder with an  AN fitting, same at the brake.

Hangar Flying / space saver panel

The orginal source for the space saver panel died a few years ago, I have seen ads for the fiberglass part of the panel, I think from feather light.

Hangar Flying / cabin heat
« on: December 14, 2005, 06:35:43 PM »
I use the gerbing heated clothing also, socks, pants and jacket,  the version made to go under a jacket  is more than enough, the version made to be worn on the outside of your clothing is too bulky. maybe I will get the electric gloves this year.  everything plugs together and a panel mounted controller lets you adjust the temperature.

Hangar Flying / fuel injection conversion
« on: November 05, 2005, 06:56:38 PM »
I am in the middle of doing a change over to FI in my long EZ. If I had a dynafocal engine mount and the NACA lower air intake it would of gone pretty easy using the airflow performance kit.  But having a conical mount and the male scoop made it a real chore, there is barely room for the fuelpump and filter and if you use the 85 degree elbow that comes with the kit there is not any clearance with the fire wall. Don Rivera and every one at Airflow Performance seem to be very nice and helped me with the clearance problems ( I ended up mounting the fuel control vertically insted of pointing forward.) Also be ready to install push pull cables for the engine controls if you have the motorcycle type that the plans had us put in. and don't forget to install a larger circuit breaker for the electric fuel pump...

Hangar Flying / Certified engine in experimentals
« on: October 27, 2005, 06:24:53 PM »
I think if you install a certified engine in an experimental it is no longer certified.  If you were to sell it, the buyer or you would have to prove that every thing was orginal and all the required AD's were complied with.

Hangar Flying / fuel vents
« on: April 17, 2005, 11:52:49 AM »
Check in the back issues of the canard pusher for details, but I
used two vents in each tank one at the front of the tank and one at the rear so no matter what pitch attitude you have, one of the vents is not covered with fuel.

Hangar Flying / Airflowperformance fuel Injection
« on: April 10, 2005, 12:22:42 PM »
I am considering converting my 0-320 Lycoming  to fuel injection using the Airflowperformance conversion kit.  Has anyone used the Airflowperformance Kit?

Hangar Flying / carburator tuning
« on: March 08, 2005, 04:26:26 PM »
The only adjustment is for Idle mixture, at idle the mixture is correct when the RPM increases slightly when you move the mixture to Idle cut off just before the engine stops.

I finally was able to get the alt info into the  garmin 330 transponderr using the  input on pin 24, the 330 and garmin 420 are interconnected  so that the traffic iinformation can be displayed on the 420 and the alt info also uses this connection to the 420.
