In one of the other forums, I read that somebody used heated socks. I found a couple of pair on ebay that are powered by D cell batteries, so bought em and have been trying them over the past month. My personal feeling is that these socks don't work at all. I bought some chemical heat pads from the pharmacy and they worked way better. Anybody have any other solutions?

Gerbing makes heated motorcycle clothing including socks, pants jackets and gloves. These are all 12volt and work very well. I only use the socks and put them on over my regular socks and LOOSLY put on a pair of shoes.
Mine are wired to a toggle switch on the panel and they will get too hot if you leave the power on for too long, even when it's well below freezing outside.

D cells have VERY little chemical/electrical energy compared to what you need to keep your feet warm. The only practical way to warm your feet is from the 12 V battery or from heat brought from the engine by a good oil or hot air distribution system.

Where can a good description of the hot oil system be found? How do you dump heat but still cool oil in the summer?
