Title: Google getting into the medical records biz

A can of worms was opened in the office yesterday with a recent article that Google is entering into the medical records business. While I am a Google fan and find that they have a very effective search engine, they don’t exactly have the best record for privacy or security. Medical information can have a real impact on a person’s livelihood. What happens if information is incorrectly entered stating that a truck driver has become an insulin dependent diabetic? How about a professional pilot? Both are perfectly healthy, but the data is wrong; now what?
On the other end of the spectrum how does the FAA currently know what medications a pilot is actually taking if they do not disclose them on the flight physical? To my knowledge even the feds cannot legally access your medial/pharmacy records without an order to do so. (Post mortem.) What about DMV? Are we headed towards a day when HIPPA be damned and an employer can just Google a prospective employee's health?
Thought I would toss this out to the board since it’s somewhat aviation oriented and message traffic has been down.
