Title: Looking for a Long

I am looking for a flying Long EZ ... cash in hand. Searching out info tells me that the long and the vari have nearly identical cockpit dimensions. Others say the Long is roomier, but nobody is quoting exact dimensions! Any good info out there? If they are the same as far as width and length (cockpit) I may even prefer a vaireze ... I am high time in numerous aircraft, and am not put off by the higher approach, landing, and take-off speeds, nor the longer runway requirements. Seems that the smaller a/c is a performer!

Eric,

 I fly a long and have seen a handful of Vari's... not sure about dimensions... To be sure...they are both airplanes that you wear...and I like that about them. The long has strakes that extend into  the forward cockpit so there is room to stuff stuff like sectionals..sandwiches, clothes etc...not sure how the Vari guys do it...but they do. Lots more real estate for packing for trips in a long too.

they are both excellent airplanes... Have fun and go for it.

Varieze/Longez
Cockpit width
    front 23 in/23 in
    rear  21 in/21 in
Cockpit hight
    front 35 in/36in
    rear  34 in/35in
Cockpit Length
    front 70 in/70in
    rear  54 in/54in

Wing span 22.3 ft/26.1 ft
Length  202 in/201.4in

The Longez can carry a whole lot more payload and the Varieze is a lot more "twitchy".  Even thought the cockpit dimensions really don't bear it out, the Longez does have more room (and weight capacity) for an IFR panel.  Also, the open strakes of the longez gives you lots of elbow room.  I can stretch my elbows out completely in flight.
