Title: Need Long ez checkride in Chino CA
Post by: Terry Fobar on June 07, 2005, 05:43:39 PM
I am trying to get checked out in a Long ez I recently purchased before attempting to fly the plane home to Oregon. The seller had told me that Mr Bill Oertel would be able to check me out in the plane and had also just given the plane an annnual inspection and flown off the remainder of its 4o hrs to get its airworthiness cert?I was really looking forward to Mr Oertel helping me and going over the plane. Is there anyone else in the LA basin that would be willing to spend a couple of hours with me and the plane. One more thing...Does anyone have a phone # or email for Mr Bill Oertel so I can ask him about this plane as the seller was not the builder and is not telling me much.

I recently went through the same phase, as I acquired a Cozy.
Bill and many others at Chino really took me under their wings and were a tremendous help to get me initiated. As a result, I am getting more comfortable not only with the airplane but also its system. Its been very gratifying six months of learning/flying, and getting to know the wonderful folks at Chino.
You may also want to contact John Fisher (805) 964-1655 at Santa Ynez who is a CFI with a dual control long-EZ. He was gracious enough to give me several hours of dual instructions in his EZ - prior to the Cozy acquisition. Now looking back, I am amazed at his calmness and restrain to keep his hands off the stick with me over the threshold - going all over the place.
