Title: lycoming tach shaft/cable
Post by: Tomkat on February 22, 2005, 11:02:05 PM
What is the problem with the tack shaft,  when not running a mechanical tach?
I have a 0-290 and plan to cap off the tack output. I read somewhere that there is a potential problem with the shaft or pin .
Please let me know what your experience has been.
Thanks
Tom

I blanked off my drive when I went to an electronic tach, after I fitted electronic ignition. The cap is available from Chief Aircraft part# EI RC1 priced $6.95.

There is a possibility that the drive shaft could come out, if the retaining pin fails.  If there is a tach sender attached. the shaft cannot come out, even if the pin fails.

The last time I had the accessory case off of mine, I removed the shaft.
