Ten Things I Like About SARL Racing

1. LongEZ Driver Dave Adams will personally spend half an hour keying the turn points into your GPS.
2. Legendary racing pilots will tell you their deepest racing insight. And some of the guy pilots too.
3. It’s kinda like when you go through an intense conceal and carry handgun class. You are in the arena in actual serious operation of your equipment, focused on observing safe practices, run by dedicated experienced pros.
4. Everybody gets a first place medal ribbon. Oh, I guess that was just today. Sorry.
5. When someone passes you, you get to see them find and make the next turn. Hopefully.
6. People outside their houses and workers in the fields standing there waving at you.
7. Should the need arise; the competitor breathing down your neck instantly becomes your wingman.
8. If you race you get a T shirt.
9. It doesn't really matter whose the fastest.    ...Right.
10.   … You get to FLY!

The legendary pilot’s personal deepest racing advice?

Fly Safe and Have a Ball!

- One of my top experiences is now smokin' across central Texas, feeling the passion, feeling the need for speed, realizing what great machines these are that we fly, and what drivers of other types have to do to keep up or pass us. In the past i was fortunate to make Kanab and Jackpot a few times, basically on the other side of the world, but truly special and worth it. Today with a little push it took 38 minutes to get home. Next season there may be an event in your back yard.    http://sportairrace.org/
The indicated speed was significantly higher today than at my first Jackpot RACE in 1997, but not what it can be with a little more tweaking. That's another thing i like about SARL, there's always next year   :)

I concur, the four races I participated in this year were a ton of fun.

Glad you made it out and had fun after all that arm twisting I gave you!  ;D  I wish you could have stuck around for the after race party.  I got a ride in Mark Frederick's C-45 (Beech 18) to the party.

Anyone that has attended one of the races will surely agree that it's a great bunch of people and it's fun being a part of the group.

I got beaten again by Sam Hoskins in his Q-200, but he got me by less than 2 MPH.  I'll get him some day.

Chris - I wish you could have made it.  It was all good untill well into the flight home.  I was up on top of the clouds at 17,5K', leaned out to 3.9 GPH and with the strong push I was getting over 210 MPH ground speeds and well over 50 MPG.

I ran out of holes to see the ground through and had to decend to get below the clouds.  I ended up leaving my plane at Fayetteville, AR and renting a car to come home.  I intend to drive back to KFYV tomorrow after work to retrieve Race 83.

Do yourselves a favor and come to one of the races next year and see what it's all about.  If you're reluctant to race, just come out to see what it's all about and maybe ride along with me and I'll show you what it's like and you can decide for yourself.

You know we have racing out in the desert too - right.  Lone Pine, Kanab, maybe others this year...

Dave, I'll see you at some 2012 races.  I was ready to go last week and had a room booked, but the SIGMET for severe turbulence in Colorado, the lower ceilings in TX, and me not feeling 100% all conspired to keep me home.  Next season.
