Title: Nose Skidplate

I know it will never happen to any of you but if you should land with the nosewheel retracted I have had made an aluminum skid plate that will take most of the initial contact with the tarmac.It is made of 0.25" 6061T6
Aluminum stock.

Hey why not just remember to put the nose gear down :wink:

And ensure your gear unsafe warning system is functional!!

This would probably solve about 99.9 percent of the gear ups. Most gear warning systems I see in homebuilts are "toys".

The gear warning horn must be the loudest, most obnoxious sounding device you can get your hands on.

I put it like this;  You could be on fire, the GIB screaming and pucking down your collar, The canopy is busted and and theres bird guts everywhere. But when that gear warning horn goes off, its so load and so obnoxious, that it immediately overrides all this other input, and you will do anything (including putting the gear down) in order to "shut that damn thing up".  When that horn goes off, there is no mistake that the gear is not down.

The cute little LED lights don't cut it, and those Radio Shack buzzers are drowned out by other noise.

Use a klaxon horn (with a circuit breaker).  Even people on the ground under your final approach will know that your gear is still in the well.

The circuit is simple: Two switches in series, one switch closes anytime the throttle is pulled to near idle, the other switch opens only when the gear is down and over center.

Thanks for the posting on the skidplate. I hadn't seen yours before and I suppose we logically came up with the same solution.
