Title: Pre purchase questions!
Post by: walter on June 29, 2006, 06:56:49 PM
I am considering buying an EZ. I am a c-130 guy with no time in type. I did own an EZ project for awhile and did some limited work on it. So I know a little about the design. I obviously will get some dual instruction prior to operating an EZ as PIC. So I have that end covered however, I have never purchased a plane before and I was wandering if you guys could give me some pointers on the pre-purchase inspections, annual inspection costs, insurance costs etc.....! I don't expect anything too super specific. I realize my situation might be different than another. Any help would be appreciated!

Curious.........where are/were you flying hercs? I am assuming you are still military and have USAA insurance.

1.  Prepurchase: on long-ez v/s a mooney for example is alot simpler......no panels to inspect.......should cost no more than few hundred dollars including a new conditional inspection.

2.  Conditional inspection (Annual) costs: Barring any problems with engine, should be no more than a few hundred bucks for an A&P mechanic to do the work and sign off.........contrast that with my mooney for example, the price was $800 going in the door and never came out less than $1600.

3.  Insurance:  Went through USAA special insurance division with EAA membership discount and 4hrs total in plane.  $1,300 per year, $25,000 hull coverage (hurricanes) $1,000,000 liability, $10,000 medical payments, zero deductible.

Please let me know which unit you were in and where you were stationed.
