Title: Changing From DOT-3 to J-13!!
Post by: Tom on June 20, 2005, 09:05:48 PM
What sort of flush is needed on the brake system to use j-13 (mil 5606) hydraulic after I've been using Dot 3??

I know the dot 3 is better, but a perspective buyer of the plane wants it back to J-13.   I think perhaps a rebuild of the sytem may be in order.  :D

I have had some experience with this.. I don't believe there is anyway to flush it out of the brakes...I finally took the system apart, cleaned it all up and replaced all O-rings.

Soon after I bought my Ez (4 yrs ago) I was getting an annual and the old timer A&P wanted to switch back to J-13, we (perhaps stupidly) just drained the old Dot-3 and replaced it with J-13. And I've used it since with no ill effects (I checked the O rings a year later and they seemed to the human eye fine)
