Hangar Flying / Long EZ Gs...
« on: May 01, 2006, 04:09:30 PM »
Thank for the insight...I've done some hard banks at high speed and the aircraft perfoms real good (as a personal feeling). Nevertheless, i believe that the experience you have encounter with your personal aircraft provides extremely valuable knowledge to us which didn't build our craft. I could never see myself at 9gs, however, If I ever encouter a situation of 3+Gs, I would like to still can keep the smile on my face.... :D

From a design point of view, how many Gs (positive and negative) can the Long EZ take???? People keep asking me and not really sure what to answer...

Hangar Flying / Speedbrake cable replacement
« on: March 18, 2006, 03:15:32 PM »
I've just return from another test flight and the cable broke from the nicopress sleve or separated from the sleeve. The crimping tool is of good quality and the sleeve was secured. This is the bottom cable, to deploy. the Top cable has the turnbucke an its working fine. should the bottom one have a turnbucke too???

Hangar Flying / Speedbrake cable replacement
« on: March 15, 2006, 09:35:53 PM »
Can anobody give me any insight of the proper wayor efficient way to replace the stainless steel cable which operates the Speedbrake mechanism???? I've tried to replaced it twice, once breaking the cable while trying to operate it on landing and the other it seems that there is certain slack on th wire when operating the brake making it travel OFF the pulley assembly.

Thanks in advance,

Hangar Flying / Propeller Paint
« on: January 26, 2006, 04:00:17 PM »
I'm fixing some nicks on my propeller with aeropoxy. However, I need to re-paint the prop to cover the aeropoxy filler. Given the nature of flameability of certain paints and the position of the prop with respect to exhaust, what kind of paint is recommended?? The original paint was an oil base gray with white tips, but I need to investigate the necessary precautions on applying new paint.

Thanks in advance.

Hangar Flying / Radio (Side-Tone)
« on: January 17, 2006, 09:21:56 PM »
Thanks to both of you. Very good insight. I am not experiencing the "whine" as we speak, but yes noise, like "open squelch". This really difficults the hearing sometimes. I know the alternator also has the filter, because I've visually seen it.  Do these filters "fail" often??? I haven't been able to locate a specific "P" lead filter...other name for it???

Thank you for the sidetone clarification, Waiter....

I will inspect the the electrical system.  Which particular "P" lead filter are you recomending???

I have to agree that most of the interference comes from the INTERCOM (which is incorporated into the radio)rather than the radio and I do have LSI ignition system.

Please get back to me with "P" lead filter...

Afif

In reference to radio communcations, does anyone knows what is the "side tone" in a VHF Radio???  I' am battling noise coming into my intercom especially at High RPMs. and it gradually stops when the RPMs are very low. I have an Apollo SL 40 transceiver. It has noise filters installed, but it makes no difference.

Thanks,

Thank you Steve....That is a likely situation and should not be discarded. After Fine tuning the new carburator, I will post the findings.

Hangar Flying / Mysterious "thump" while flying my EZ-Help!
« on: October 16, 2005, 06:28:15 PM »
Thank you Waiter.   The thump is an engine thump, like it skips a heart beat. We did a detailed inspection on the whole engine assembly yesterday. We tighten every significant nut, check leads, crimps, fuel flow, checked the spark plugs cables with a tester, adjusted the mixture travel cable, and cleaned the whole assembly for moisture. Took it for a test flight and tried to re-create the thump scenario and I couldn't not make it happen. I had a pretty smile on my face. I just need to take it up to 10,000 ft and evalute the performance which is where i first noticed the malfunction and do the final tune up to the new carburator. According to a Klaus Savier from Light Speed Engineering, I might also have to change the CDI cable from a twisted shielded pair, to a single shield conductor in an effort to reduce inductive coupling on the wires. I'll post further results..... Nevertheless, I greatly appreciate all your "educational" check list and probable causes which will definetly help me understand the future similar scenarios.
