I switched projects from the Cozy III to  Long EZ.

https://www.barnstormers.com/classified_1147858_Cozy+III+Project+With+Extras.html

Cozy III project for sale. It is complete through Ch 7 and half way through Ch 8. It is very good workmanship. This project is an original project from the 1980’s and includes much of the original stuff purchased from the Cozy corp. Originally purchased from Cozy and started by Capt. Kevin Riley. The project includes:
·         Fuselage in tub stage. Finished through Ch 7 and Chapter 8 is about half finished.

·         Raw Main Gear Bow from Featherlight.

·         A fully completed and previously flown Cozy Roncz canard. Needs to be refinished and check elevator balance. This will save having to complete Ch 10 and Ch 11.

·         Upper and Lower Engine Cowlings

·         Firewall

·         Seat Belts

·         Some Miscellaneous Hardware and materials

·         All original Cozy III plans and drawings

·         All original Cozy Newsletter Publications necessary to complete the project in addition to the plans.

·         All original Cozy Glossy sheets and Marketing Materials

·         Original Owner Bill of Sale from Cozy

·         Cozy aircraft decals

·         All Original Cozy Manuals

Altogether, this would easily cost $5000 if you bought it all separately and started from scratch. Additional Information here at my partial build log.

Hangar Flying / Re: What killed the Long EZ?
« on: October 12, 2014, 11:51:08 PM »
I have spoken to a few people wanting to start a LEZ or find an abandoned project. The problem is often cost. I wouldn't expect that if I threw in the towel and gave up building my Cozy that I would sell it for more than 30% of what I have in it. Market value is a long way from build cost in any of the experimental aircraft.

In the last six months there have been half dozen flying VEZ under $20K, one flying LEZ Under $20K and several more under $30K. Plus all the standard priced LEZ and Cozy's on the market. The cheapest way to build a plane right now might be to buy a used one. It really devalues the non flying projects when there are that many flying examples on the market.

Hangar Flying / Re: Flying qualities of a Long EZ and Cozy
« on: August 25, 2013, 08:03:37 AM »
I suspect that question is different for everyone who flies them. The only way you are going to know is to get in one and go. Where do you live? Perhaps you can join CSA and use the accompanying member list to find someone local to give you a ride. Perhaps a ride request on this forum or another will do the trick.
You post your request on this site or on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canard-aviators or  http://forum.canardaviation.com/.
Another option is to contact your local EAA which has a high likelihood of having one or two on the roster.

I understand the best way to get good comparisons is to go to the Rough River fly-in and get to know people and their planes and hopefully a few spirit rides to convince you to join the group of folks that call themselves builders.

I rode in a Cozy III and was sold. Fast, quiet, and smooth describe it best. Small, smooth, easy control movements. Really comfortable. If that was the worst ride in a Cozy, it would beat the best ride in a C-172 on any day.

Hangar Flying / Re: So I want to build... BUT
« on: August 19, 2013, 07:51:54 PM »
Nothing in the plans is all that complicated or takes any special training. Just follow the directions and try not to deviate. If you are concerned with your skills, take an EAA Sportair composite workshop. They are relatively cheap and there is probably one in your area. Join your local EAA for sure and find a tech counselor that knows EZ's. The only other thing to decide is what to build. The only projects out there that have a lot of support and full plans with templates are the Long EZ through Terf plans and Open EZ drawings, or the Cozy MK IV where the plans can be purchased new. There are lots of vendors with parts and support available for those two designs. Maybe full plans available for E-Racers but I don't know anything about that bird.

For Sale/Wanted / Divinycell for Sale
« on: July 24, 2013, 10:48:49 PM »
I switched projects and have some unneeded Divinycell foam.

3/4" H45  Approx.~ 55+ sq. ft. (2 sheets at 32 sq. ft. each minus one LEZ front seat back bulkhead. Rear seatback bulkhead cut out but not shaped or glassed.)

1/4" H250 13.5 sq.ft.

Some 2x3 sheets of misc. urethane.

Should be enough product for all the bulkheads plus sides of a LEZ.
2x as much H250 as you will need.

altogether it's about $750 from ACS.

Make me an offer.

For Sale/Wanted / Re: Wing foam needed
« on: July 24, 2013, 06:43:36 AM »
I think I am a little confused. After researching all the forums, I was under the impression that the "Fabrication Billet" or "Pipe Billet" is the Extruded foam that is the correct density and cell size and is listed by Dow and ITW as XPS Pipe Fabrication billet now.  And that the "Flotation Billet" is Expanded foam, weaker, lower density, and wrong cell size. Am I misinformed, confused, or neither?

Hangar Flying / Re: Best way to transport a Project?
« on: October 14, 2012, 03:21:24 PM »
I haven't tried it myself, but it seems to me that a boat trailer might be perfect. there is no shortage of used boat trailers in texas loitering about parking lots everywhere. THe las trailer I had, all the runners were covered with carpet, they were individually adjustable in at least two different axies. The strakes will lay on the tops of the side guides .Lots of them around for sale durt cheap especially in the lewisville area

I graduated from Texas Aero Tech A&P school at the top of my class back in the 90's. They couldn't find me a job and I got disgusted and didn't take my oral and practical. I changed my mind and went back a month later to finish up and the doors were locked. Out of business and filed for bankruptcy. Is it still possible to get my A&P license this late in the game? Does anyone keep records? Who would I talk to for more info?

Thanks Bruce. Yes I ended way out of aviation. I grew up in aircraft. My dad always had a 172 we were puttering around in. We also owned a 310. I have spent some time in Bonanza's and Mooney's as well. I like the faster planes but they still seemed kind of big and clunky like a bus. I graduated from A&P school but the military turned out 50,000 mechanics after the first gulf war. They best job they could get me was $7 dollars an hour in a sweat shop. I got disgusted and didn't even take my oral and practical test. Got a Psychology degree too. That didn't work out either. Still a manager at Wal-Mart. Who would of thunk.

I digress.

Actually I have already downloaded all the plans, CP's, drawings, templates, in PDF and CAD. I think I have everything I need to get started on a LEZ actually. It wasn't all in one place but I think I got it all. I think since it is just me and the girlfriend,(and who knows how long those sorts of things last), I am leaning toward the LEZ. How do I join CSA? I didn't see a registration link or anywhere to sign up.

Do you own a Velocity? I actually like the velocity a little better than the Cozy IV for the same mission. At least aesthetically. For a 4 place aircraft I really prefer the side entry doors as opposed to a top loader. I don't know if that would be a realistic option on the Cozy. I personally tend to gravitate to the tandem seating of the LEZ. I like the Cozy and LEZ because I only need to invest in one chapter at a time. Plunking down the price of a Velocity kit probably isn't a viable option for me. I am a little more interested in pay as you go building. I almost bought an un-started Q-200 kit I found and I liked it for the low flight cost. But in the end I decided it just doesn't have enough usable load for me. At the other end of the spectrum, my dream bird is a Berkut. Waaaaayyyyyy out of my price range even if I could find an uncompleted kit. Somewhere right in the middle are the Cozy IV and the LEZ. I like them mostly per plans except that I am considering an automotive conversion engine and mogas capable. I am really hoping to find a ride in one soon or at least get a closer look at these two soon. I am joining the EAA and the local chapter. I am signing up for a sport-air workshop and I would like to make a fly-in this year but it probably won't happen till next year. In the mean time, I am working on my pilot license and starting work on a book end.

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Scott and I live in Savannah Tx. I have wanted to get a Private Pilot license and build a plane for 30 years now and I am just getting around to it. I just joined this forum to get a better idea of what is involved and get started in the canard community. I am trying to decide what aircraft I want to build. I started narrowing it down based on reading this forum and other home built forums. I think I have narrowed it down to a choice between the Cozy IV and a Long-EZ. Would anyone like to try and convince me which one is better? I would especially love to hear from anyone in North Texas.
