Hangar Flying / Re: Tip Back Prop Strike!!!
« on: June 14, 2013, 10:26:58 PM »
You know, I posted this while I was still half in a panic. I calmed down a bit and sent Catto an e-mail about it. I probably won't hear back until Monday though so no flying for me this weekend :(
I'm still kicking myself!

Hangar Flying / Tip Back Prop Strike!!!
« on: June 14, 2013, 07:47:59 PM »
Fellow Canardians,
The dreaded thing happened!!! I managed to somehow allow my airplane to tip back when I was pushing it around!!! It hit the very tip of the CATTO 3-blade wood/fiberglass prop that I have on the airplane. When I noticed it was going back I started pulling but I just didn't manage to get it stopped before it hit the very tip!!! It delaminated the top about 1/8" of the blade tip.

I wanted to know what the suggestions were from you guys and gals on what the best course forward is:

1. get a new prop. not preferred obviously
2. file down the tip to eliminate the delamination. then file down the other two tips to the same length
3. use some mill fiber to fill things in

I am kind of leaning towards 2 but am worried about internal damage to the propeller from the impact. What is the likelihood there? All tips very welcome. Thanks guys!!!

What a timely thread!!! I also live in Seattle and am interested in building or buying a canard airplane but was looking for a ride. I will be sure to give Joe Person a call  :D :D :D
