Title: Long EZ centersection hard points
Post by: gullikson on February 07, 2006, 12:13:33 PM
Hello all:
I am getting ready to build the centersection spar for my Long EZ. I ordered the 1/4 x 2 and 1/8 x 2 2024 aluminum for the hardpoints and was delivered 2024-T4 rather than 2024-T3. Does anyone in the group have the expertise to tell me if the T4 will be suitable for the spar hardpoints? From what I see in mechanical properties tables, there is a small difference in ksi T3 and T4. Is this difference enough that I should be concerned?
Thanks, Greg

Hi Greg, They sent me the same 2024-T4 when I was making my canard lift tabs a couple years ago. I called Dave Ronneberg and he said the -T4 was just fine to use, just heat treated a little differently and therefore a little harder than the -T3. I guess as far as spruce is concerned, they are interchangeable. Hope that helps.
