One more note. If your caps with the gasket you show in your picture are ever exposed to auto gas they will swell and you will have a heck of a time getting them back in the filler hole. the new caps use a expandable viton O ring. NO PROBLEM

There are many company's that make custom blow molded fuel tanks, some even with baffles. If the dimensions were just under the plans size tanks. I would think that would be the way to go. I'm surprised Vans has not looked into this for their kit builders. Build all except top. Install plastic tank, plumb, and screw on top skin instead of rivet.
Could be made for Long-EZ, Cozy fuel strakes too. Only problem not a very large production run for them.
These tanks are widely used on everything from Weed Whackers, Motor cycles, to Bulldozers. inexpensive, and complex shapes don't seem to be a problem.

I flew my Long for over 10 years before I put on the VG's. I was reluctant to put them on as I had no change in pitch in rain, bugs, or clouds. I think the pitching issue was addressed in a CP. The authors conclusion was those with problems had their canard incident wrong. I installed them just to see if the claims about slower landing speed were true. They are.

I have them on my GU canard. They do lower the landing speed by about 10 knots. I also carry extras and a small tube of clear RTV. VG"s seem to attract idiots who try to see how well they are attached.

I live in the Indianapolis area. I also have my Long-EZ, I built. Based here. I do not know of this Long-EZ. The price sounds low, But it is not flying. As for the weight. It could be just a bad set of scales. Still not too high if you add starter, alternator, lights, stuff. If you can find out where he is located. I would take a look at it.
