New Wheel pants - Buy complete or get patterns/forms?
« on: March 24, 2005, 02:38:13 PM »
I've searched around google and what not, but was unable to find a solid lead on a supplier for Long-EZ wheel pants.  I've heard of the solid core forms or patterns being passed around as well.

Whose design is considered the best, and where can I get the completed set or pattern?

My current set are hard to take on/off and are cracked. I suppose I could use them to make a mold though, any thoughts on this route?

thanks in advance.

If you would rather buy than build, the recognized source in the EZ community for wheel pants is Klaus Savier at Light Speed Engineering <http://www.lightspeedengineering.com/>.  It's a fair chore either way, but like most pre-fab parts it's quicker to buy than build.  Also, it is very unlikely that you are going to find anything out there with better performance than Klaus', and there certainly are plenty of designs that aren't as good.  Mounting them is the real challenge.

Sorry, I don't have any direct experience with molding from existing parts, although I'm sure that it can be done.  Just be sure that the design of your existing wheel pants is good enough justify the time and effort spent duplicating them.     :?

CSA has a mold for wheel pants that is shipped all around the country. Contact Terry Schubert, I think he is listed on the member links page.

Thanks everyone for the help. I'm a CSA member, but didn't know about the collective set of patterns, I'll ask Terry.
Though that RV shop has some that look good and are pretty cheap.

For all that use Terry's molds (I did----and love my wheel pants), don't sit on them when you get them.  You should stop working on whatever project you have going and make your pants right away (no more than a week).  There are people waiting for the molds.  My understanding is that there are people out there who sat on them for months---be considerate of others.

Gary Hertzler recommended me to buy james' aircraft wheel pants. Those are the "pressure recovery" wheel pants that he (Gary) designed.
