Some people have had good luck running a proper length wire down the brake line conduits of the gear legs. I have not done this or actually seen in operation.
However, on my Longez, I ran the proper length copper foil tape down the right upper longeron. Put on the proper toroids and ran a coax to it. Worked great. These kind of antennas are very cheap to make.

Thanks Drew.
Now all I have to do is find out how to get the right length of foil tape, and where to get it and also toroids ? ? Whuzzat ?
Thanks, Glennbob

You can purchase an antenna kit that includes the foil, the torroids and an instruction booklet from www.rst-engr.com They sell it as an 'antenna kit'.
Their web site says that they are out of the office for a while, but I have ordered from them before and they provide great service.

The ant kit that swinn references has all the documentation and parts you need to make just all the antennas you need (comm, marker beacon, ILS, VOR, etc). All very cheap.

Mine is in the nose... i am told that you can get the same frequency response by folding the foil antenna in a "z" pattern to get the right length...check better sources then me.

Speaking of antenna's, I'm currently using an Air Wip com antenna that was designed to fit in the nose of various UL composite noses. Very fexible and works great so far. Groundplane free - a full half-wave dipole.

Hey THANKS GUYS ! ! for all the tips and info ! !
I bought an HSI and cant wait to get it installed properly. I know I'm adding more weight with IFR instruments, but I plan to compensate by loosing 20 #'s around my middle ! ! Hope I can do it ! ! :P
