Hangar Flying / Egine mount Failure......VariEze Lyc O-235
« on: July 15, 2006, 09:37:20 PM »
Check the inside of the tube for corrosion if any is found then replace the
mount do not repair as the other tubes are about to fail also. the small hole is there for two reasons. one is to allow the expanded air out during welding and then a small amount of linseed oil is injected into the tube to prevent corrosion and then the hole is welded closed. I do not know why ken brock did not do this standard FAA aproved proceedure to his mounts because in time corrosion will destroy the mount from the inside. the crack at this hole is common with Brock mounts and has nothing to do with weld penetration. the corrosion starts at the hole and weakens the metal and a crack starts at the weakest point.

Hangar Flying / What exactly IS a BerkEZ??

I run a Lightspeed on the top and bottom and there is no differance.  I think Klaus says to run them on the top so when the bottom ones load up on the mag you would call him with a problem. It inshures that his product is allways run good and you get it started even on a worn engine. Adding the second EI gave me 4 MPH more on the top end and have not fouled a plug since. I run the NGK's with the solid top cap

Hangar Flying / cabin heat

Let us know how it worked or did not. I tried one with almost no improvement in air flow. that blower can't have any restriction or it stops blowing. I don't think you will need to very the speed try it before you install  the switch. If you want a blower I'll send you one  for free, that how good it worked.

Check out air flow performance. They make a complete kit with everything you will need and they are more performance oriented then the old bendix system. More HP, smoother runing and better economy

Hangar Flying / fuel valve

The long eze valve that has a good feel, as in you can feel the detents, is the Allen valve. The old brass valve can be replaced with the allen valve in the original location and works very well.

Hangar Flying / EZ Flight Instruction

If you own the aircraft and pay for instruction in that aircraft you are not using the aircraft for hire. the aircraft is not making money the instructor is.

Hangar Flying / canopy cleaning
« on: July 02, 2005, 09:58:51 AM »
I have used Goof off for many years on plexi glass (Acrylic plastic) and have not  seen any problems, but do not use it on Lexan ( polycarbonate plastic ) it will desolve it big time. Many people confuse the two as they are both used for windows. most of the aircraft canopies on our eze's are Acrylic but some have been made of lexan. The big jets use lexan.

Hangar Flying / attaching winglets on vez with kevlar?
« on: June 15, 2005, 10:20:09 PM »
Are you trying to become a test pilot? Even with proper engineering done for such a substitution and you find out the engineers made a bad calculation, you may be a test pilot with no winglets.  Hopefully the winglets  don't come off, but you will have to wonder if they are going to hold on every time you take to the air.  There is very little to gain and a lot to loose by subsituting materials for the tried and tru. Stick to the plans and you will fly sooner, safer and with peace of mind.
