Title: Aircraft Wash and Wax

Are there any 'do's and dont's' when it comes to care and cleaning of these planes other than Simple Green.  Normal soap and water ok?  How about waxes?

I have searched the archives and have came up empty handed.

I think in the EZ instructions is says something about it.

As I recall, basically, no solvents of any type.  Just soap and water and physical labor.

When youre doing the engine area, keep any moisture from entering the throttle, mixture and carb heat cable jackets.  When you get to altitude, it will freeze and your controls won't work.

When I was doing flight training the flying school used Pledge on the windshield. Very effective in cleaning squashed congealed bugs.
I use it for the LongEZ, no build up and anti static, works great.
You can get a 3 pack large size from Costco.

There is a school of thought that believes that wax/Pledge/etc that contain silicon should be avoided as the silicon makes the re-painting process difficult when the time comes.  As I recall, this isn't so much a problem with metal structures as special (non-composite friendly) solvents may be used to remove silicon laden paint from these structures.

This issue may be a wives tale; some input from an Ez driver who has repainted their plane after using a silicon product would be helpful.
