Ballistic Recovery Parachute
Ballistic installation on a Cozy. I will try to show the steps.
I just will
put the parachute in the aircraft when it`s finished.
The Cozy
weights 2050lbs = 930kg. My recovery system supports 2160lbs = 980kg.
At 250km/h
the aperture force is 4700kgf, multiplying by the security factor of 1,5, we have 7050kgf. This force divided by 3 points is
2350kgf in each.

23/08/2008 The streams are 7mm height and 40mm
width. I carved my longerons
in 4mm, That`s not possible to cross the tapes without doing that. The horizontal line is WL17.4. The
vertical line is the IP, where finish the CozyGirrrl
strake. The tape will run over the strake until the center section spar. |

24/08/2008 I reinforced the F28 in ch04. |

I decided to make the nose rounded, so I
modified my F28 to the 4" in plans. This will work to accommodate the
ballistic in the front co-pilot foots area. |

My longerons
support one tension of 3760kgf. But the F28 supports only 600kgf. These are
fibers aprox. calcs,
when are some foam between the fibers these forces are multiplied n times. I scheduled like this 1ply UNI carbon
@0, 1ply BID de carbon @45, 1ply BID aramide @0/90,
1ply BID aramide @45 and 2ply UNI 7715@0. Extended
over the doublers until 5" from F28. I use the website to make my annotation.

27/08/2008 To stiffening the F28 I put 2UNI of
carbon tape. After alignment of the canard I will put
carbon in the front of F28. |

That`s makes my F28 with a 3320kgf
rupture force. By the way, is not my F28 that will
support all the forces involved in one ballistic aperture.
Is one junction between F22, F28, IP and the bottom of the fuse.
I will use aramide tapes to build these
connections. |

After the carbon tapes I put 1 tape BID @0/90 of aramide
until the IP. |

Over the aramide
tape I laminated 1ply of aramide until 2"
below the 4ply UNI canard reinforcements. |
|
|
Below F28 I crossed the carbon and the aramide,
the tie will be in the center of the bulkhead. |
|
|
There are flox
in the bottom of the F28 to make the curvature without air bubbles. The thickness of carbon tape is 0,59mm,
2ply are 1,18mm, plus the aramide, so to conform I
have to put the flox. |
