Wait a minute…this isn’t a COZY!!

That’s right. It’s a Cessna 401. I almost ended up with it. It needed a little bit of work…but all in all the end result would have been 30 GPH and lots of $$$ for my favorite A and P Man. Then along came homebuilt and experimental aircraft (or rather, I happened upon them). Why would anyone want to build their own airplane? Aren’t the aircraft manufacturers turning out quality aircraft?

Sure. But so are private builders. Better quality I think. For $500,000.00 you can buy a new single engine plane that will do everything a Cozy will do. For $50,000.00 you can buy an airplane that is 40 years old and needs lots of attention, but most of the time it will do everything a Cozy will do (but use more gas doing it).

So, quality and expense are 2 reasons.

They look cool.

OK, 3 reasons.
